in a tizzy from being dizzy

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on September 17, 2018 by phanteana

hoo boy, it’s been awhile since i’ve Pressed in these parts. i was sidelined by vertigo (and i don’t mean the movie) earlier this month, but i’m back to feeling like myself now so i can actually look at a computer for more than 5 minutes without getting dizzy.

in other news, i secured my first paying client and will be building a landing page for them during my free time. i’m still doing ALL THE LIBRARIAN THINGS, but it’s nice to know that even as a code newbie i can find people who are willing to give me small opportunities to build up my skill sets. now i kinda want to watch Vertigo when i get home later.

a long expected journey through the mail

from the office of the library school registrar:

I would like to be the first to congratulate you on your achievement, you are now officially a graduate! We will order your diploma from our printer, the process takes around 8 weeks.”

the degree took 2 years to complete (while simultaneously working full-time), i suppose i can wait another 8 weeks for the diploma. this printer must be in New Zealand.

no more pencils, no more books…

hilarity in vocabulary

two of my favorite random nonsensical vocabulary words:

meta-crap: this term was coined by Cory Doctorow in 2001. it’s used to describe issues with metadata (“data about data”). one of the courses i am taking this semester deals with Metadata, so the word meta-crap will most likely crop up a lot. according to Doctorow, there are 7 obstacles to achieving reliable metadata.

carmageddon: a term coined in 2011 to describe the closure of the 405 freeway in Los Angeles, and the ensuing traffic nightmare it caused. it’s a fun word to say, but not so fun for anyone who has experienced it. the sequel, Carmageddon II, happened a year later.

what’s that noise?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on July 31, 2013 by phanteana

strange sounds came from above the classroom this week, notably clapping and shuffling around. it’s either excitement over the end of the summer semester, noisy maintenance workers, or ghosts.
